South-westerly winds will intensify early this morning,
with gales of up to 70mph expected in south-east Scotland and England's North.
A separate low pressure system
will move east across northern Scotland later today.
The winds will ease on Monday
afternoon, but could pick up again in the evening, according to the Met Office.
Sky's weather presenter Isobel
Lang said: "Winds will continue to reach 65mph in the strongest gusts -
this will bring some disruption to travel especially along the A1 and M6.
"Winds
will not be as strong during Tuesday or Wednesday although a deepening Atlantic
depression will bring a return to gale or severe gale force winds later in the
week."
Patchy rain is also expected in
the North and North West, but there will be mainly cloudy conditions in the
South.
The expected rainfall, including
some over western Yorkshire, is being driven by warm air flowing in from the
Atlantic.
The Met Office's warning states:
"The public should be aware of the risk.
"Much of the rain will be
linked to the high ground of northern England with good shelter to the east.
"However, rivers are likely
to rise in response to this rainfall and localised flooding is possible in the
rain area as well as downstream in rivers flowing eastwards away from the
Yorkshire Dales."/by sky news
